  • Downtown Traverse City Association will host Community Canvas, a self-guided art walk at various retailers from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17. The event includes the Crooked Tree Arts Center Winter Exhibits Opening Reception from 3 to 5 p.m. plus a mural unveiling at Larry Hardy Parking Structure.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jill Sill leads Norte Youth Cycling where local kids learn riding skills and form friendships as they build confidence and leadership. The program nurtures a journey from first rides to becoming part of a growing community.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Way of Northwest Michigan closed its dental clinic (United We Smile) on Jan.2 in the Copper Ridge development amid staffing and capacity constraints. The organization notified patients and helped them find alternative dental care.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • North Country Community Mental Health (NCCMH) is offering free Mental Health First Aid training on Feb. 6, May 1, and Aug. 14, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Zoom. Funded by a Michigan DHHS grant, the course is open to residents in its six-county service area.  UpNorthLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Traverse City Central and Traverse City West Senior High will compete in the 12th annual Veterans Cup hockey game on Saturday, Jan. 17. The matchup will showcase local talent and boost community sports pride.  UpNorthLive
  • Traverse City Track Club hosts its annual Frozen Foot Race on Saturday, Jan. 17. Hundreds of runners will brave frigid cold, snow, ice and slush as executive director Lindsay McLaughlin noted the club’s hardy spirit (runners should dress warmly).  Traverse City Record-Eagle
