  • The Father Fred Foundation’s annual Frostbite Food Drive will begin Saturday in Traverse City, with donations accepted at Tom’s, Oleson’s, and Oryana until Feb. 15.   • The Kiwanis Club recognized senior Lillian Shev as a Student of the Month on Monday, Feb. 2 in Traverse City. Shev is active in school programs and holds multiple honors, and she will study public policy at a four-year university.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • The Traverse City Fire Department advises residents to remove snow from hydrants near their properties to ensure water access during emergencies — officials stress that clearing the snow will help maintain fire safety in northern Michigan.  UpNorthLive

  • Yarrow Brown, head of Housing North since May 2020, is urging the community to keep up efforts to remove barriers to safe, affordable housing for all — a goal underscored by her commitment to local advocacy in northwest Lower Michigan.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Traverse City St. Francis fell 53-50 in overtime to Saginaw Nouvel in a home basketball tournament game — coach Sean Finnegan said the team executed the scouting report for most of the game.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • North Central Michigan College swept Alpena Community College in recent basketball games — Kirtland men also won their last two contests. The wins occurred last week in the region.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • The Traverse City Curling Club is training Olympic athletes ahead of the curling event from Feb. 4 through Feb. 12. The club (in its third year) has hosted national championships and Olympic qualifiers.  UpNorthLive
