- ➤ King Orchards, a family farm in Antrim County, makes 1.2 million pounds of apples from 300 acres and ships fresh produce to 48 states. Owner Jack King said the farm now also sells frozen cherries and strawberries (thanks to Michigan’s good growing weather). UpNorthLive

- ➤ Scott O’Dell, an aviation maintenance teacher (Northwest Education Services Career Tech Center) was honored as New Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Association for Career and Technical Education on Jan. 27 at the Michigan Career Education Conference in Grand Rapids. - ➤ The Michigan Department of Natural Resources purchased Black River Ranch for $18 million from a privately owned hunting club on Feb. 5. The deal covers over 8,000 acres in Pigeon River State Forest to protect wildlife habitat for elk, black bears and bobcats. UpNorthLive
