COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Drivers lined up on Woodmere Avenue as a Great Lakes Central Railroad train moved more than 100 railcars east through town Tuesday afternoon—employees blocked traffic and one rode on a train car.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eleven small businesses in the area will share $48,000 in grant funding announced this week by 20Fathoms and Venture North. Each business will receive about $4,500 as the grants target disabled-owned, indigenous-owned and women-owned companies.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Mandi Shellenbarger joined Brodeur Capital Management and Gillow Wealth Management of Raymond James as a Registered Client Service Associate on Tuesday, Feb. 11. She brings over 20 years of financial service experience to help wealth management advisors.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Vasa will revive its 50K classic for the 50th Annual Festival of Races — a winter event that began as a small Nordic ski race in 1977. The festival is set to bring the community together on local Traverse County trails.  UpNorthLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Traverse City Area Public Schools Board approved 2026 goals to boost student engagement, form regional industry partnerships and enhance academic benchmarks. The goals aim to grow K8 LEAP registrations by 4 percent and improve math and literacy scores by December 2026 (targets set by the district).  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • The Traverse City Area Public Schools Administration at Glenn Loomis building will close Feb. 16 to 20 for renovations to prepare for Central Grade staff and students. During that time HR and the Superintendent’s Office will relocate to the TCAPS Facilities building at 1212 Cass Road.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traverse City Police renamed its Quick Response Team to the Resilience Program to help people facing substance use, mental health crises, and homelessness. The program will continue connecting locals to services as a University of Michigan study showed it reduced law enforcement calls.  UpNorthLive
