CULTURE NEWS

  • Interlochen Center for the Arts has announced its summer concert series with performances including Joe Bonamassa with Gov’t Mule and Jefferson Starship with special guests (Atlanta Rhythm Section, Firefall, Orleans) on dates in July and August at Kresge Auditorium. Tickets for both sets go on sale Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.  UpNorthLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Extreme winter weather has led many northern Michigan schools to cancel several days of class—Pellston, Vanderbilt, and Gaylord reached seven cancellations while Traverse City schools closed for six days. A waiver is available for districts exceeding the six-day limit.  UpNorthLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A local conservation effort near Crooked Lake is underway after North Central Michigan College received donated parcels from the Kaine family (a transformational gift) and partners including Little Traverse Conservancy, the state and tribal organizations will protect nearly 13 acres and 2,000 feet of lakeshore for future generations.  UpNorthLive

  • Dozens of organizations and local governments received more than $900K from the Grand Traverse Band's 2% allocation program using gaming revenue from the latter half of 2025, funding projects in town halls, emergency services, and schools.  UpNorthLive

  • A group of veterans gathers today at Boyne Mountain for an adaptive ski clinic led by Marine veteran Jon Lujan and hosted by Semper Fi & America’s Fund to boost physical & mental health and assess further support needs.  UpNorthLive

  • Northern Michigan ski resorts are having a strong season as families take advantage of fresh snow on the slopes. Crystal Mountain (10 ft snow) and Caberfae Peaks (125 inches so far) will stay open through late March and early April.  UpNorthLive
