EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northport Public Schools started a radio broadcast program in September to teach middle and high school students how to run a radio station — students visited Midwestern Broadcasting in Traverse City to learn about professional broadcasting careers and plan for live broadcasts in the future.  9&10 News
  • Nonprofit LIFT supports Leelanau County Public Schools with after-school programs that connect students with local resources (including farm visits and rock climbing at Elevate in Traverse City). The initiative helps youth discover community strengths.  9&10 News
  • Child psychologists in Traverse City stress that teaching empathy is important for kids facing self-obsession from social media. Experts recommend role modeling and skills practice (like listening and kindness) to build resilience, purpose, and strong relationships.  9&10 News

  • Representatives from Progressive Companies and the Downtown Development Authority will present the final Rotary Square design to the city commission on Monday night. The plan — inspired by Petoskey Stone and shaped by over 1,000 community responses — features a turf lawn, wood slat canopy and accessible platform to create a public space linking downtown and Old Town.  9&10 News
