COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Traverse City Police Department, Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police will host a 'Coffee with a Cop' outreach event on Thursday, Mar. 12 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Grand Traverse Pie Company at 525 West Front St. to engage community members.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rock band Daughtry will perform at the Pepsi Bayside Music Stage on July 9 during the National Cherry Festival's 100th celebration in Traverse City. Tickets go on sale next week — starting at 9 a.m. on the official festival website.  9&10 News
  • The Ancient Order of Hibernians will host the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Mar. 14 — starting at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Traverse City with Irish dancers, community groups and festive floats. MiddleCoast Brewing will open at 9 a.m. for pre-parade hospitality.  9&10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakeside Shakespeare Festival announced free summer theater camps for children and high school internships in Benzie County; the camps run July 28 to 30 for ages 6 to 9 and July 29 to 31 with an August 1 performance (registration is free) at Tank Hill in Frankfort.  9&10 News
  • Traverse City Area Public Schools approved more than $17.2 million in construction contracts — including a 9.28% contingency — to fund a new Afterschool Clubhouse and Multi-Purpose Fieldhouse next to East Middle School paid for by donations and capital bond funds.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Steve Graziano of Jacobs Engineering presented a proposal on Monday, Mar. 9 for an odor control study at the wastewater treatment plant on Hannah Avenue. The study will use hydrogen sulfide monitors plus air dispersion modeling to help reduce odors affecting nearby homes, the beach, and downtown.  9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Transportation invited community members to an open house on March 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Golden Fellowship Hall (9700 Riley Road) in Interlochen to discuss improvements for the $32.5 million US 31 rebuilding project. Work begins March 23 with tree clearing to enhance safety.  9&10 News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Grand Traverse Resort and Spa will host its annual Spring Break and Easter celebrations with tropical-themed activities, holiday dining & resort discounts. The events will offer community members festive experiences as they enjoy seasonal fun.  9&10 News
  • Katy demonstrates how to create Easter bunny pillows from leftover fabric using a traced template, a zig-zag stitch, and ribbon—an easy craft project to brighten home decor.  9&10 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Leland native Alisha Glass Childress will be inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame on June 29 in Salt Lake City, recognizing her record-setting high school and NCAA career (and her ongoing role mentoring youth volleyball in Michigan).  9&10 News
  • The Snowbirds beat Gaylord St. Mary 66-43 in their first regional semifinal meeting. They will face Frankfort in the finals on Thursday at Johannesburg-Lewiston.  9&10 News
