  • Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities has named James Bruckbauer as its new leader, announced today (in Traverse City) to guide the local group in its efforts to build community resilience.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Rockin Resale in Interlochen offers affordable goods while donating proceeds to a local food and baby pantry at Redeemer Church each month. Donors receive a 10% coupon for future purchases, and co-owners Jim and Cindy plan to expand their community service as the business grows.  9&10 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • KC and the Sunshine Band will perform live at the 100th National Cherry Festival on Tuesday, July 7 at Pepsi Bayside Music Stage in Traverse City. The concert will feature disco, funk and soul music celebrating the centennial of the festival.  9&10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwest Education Services has partnered with Kettering University to launch a renewable $25,000 scholarship for students who meet the university's admission criteria — the award is open to all eligible majors and renewable for up to four years.  9&10 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials warned people to avoid parts of Lake Mitchell after storms and power outages led to wastewater overflowing from two lift stations on West and East Lake Mitchell Drive in Wexford County. Crews cleaned the affected areas and set up barricades as officials monitored conditions for public safety.  UpNorthLive
  • The Traverse City Light and Power board approved a $248K contract with Keen Technical Solutions to install a solar and battery demonstration project at its Hall St. service center; the project will offer a live renewable energy education site for residents, businesses and nonprofits.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
