  • Cherry Capital Airport is ramping up for spring break in Northern Michigan—preparing for a busy couple of weeks as more travelers head our way. The airport is increasing operations to handle the surge in visitors.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CRIME NEWS

  • Kulwaran Singh, a semi driver from Fresno, Calif.—was arrested and charged with negligent homicide after an accident in Wexford County.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NanBop Farm fed its chickens on March 20th as part of a program to grow food, eat healthily and teach local residents about sustainable farming practices. The farm will hold more activities to show animal care and local food production in the coming weeks.  9&10 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • As ice recedes and warmer days set in, residents may see dead fish along lakes and ponds—a phenomenon the Michigan DNR calls fish kill caused by decaying underwater plants that lower oxygen levels. The DNR said panfish quickly recover through profuse spawning and asked locals to report sightings using the Eyes in the Field app—helping track the event this spring.  UpNorthLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A $2 million project to expand rental car and temporary parking facilities at Cherry Capital Airport will start this spring after the Northwest Regional Airport Authority approved a $2,054,131 contract with Team Elmer’s—expanding the rental car area and paving the cell phone lot for passenger pickups.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • On March 19, the county board unanimously approved a plan to bring high-speed fiber-optic internet to rural areas in six counties—AcenTek is now seeking state grants to boost broadband in underserved communities.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
