- ➤ On Thursday afternoon, more than 130 community members gathered at a Traverse Area District Library Board meeting to discuss a request to restrict access to the children's book Grandad's Pride. After legal review, the board unanimously voted to keep the book on the shelves (citing the protection of First Amendment rights and inclusion). UpNorthLive

- ➤ Traverse City's State Theatre started its free spring break movie series Friday, March 21 — running until March 27. Every day at 10:00 a.m., the theatre shows a free kids movie followed by films from France, China, the UK and Fairytale Land for local staycationers. 9&10 News
- ➤ Frankfort’s Oliver Art Center is hosting a multimedia exhibit—SHE: Honoring Women in Art—in honor of National Women’s History Month. The exhibit runs through March 28. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ Traverse City musician Laurel Premo, known for her work with Red Tail Ring and her solo album Golden Loam, has joined the experimental rock project Slow Spell. - ➤ New job, wage and employment data for our area will be available soon to help local businesses compete with other regions. Economic manager Dylan Schafer said the data will be produced after Traverse City was named a Metropolitan Statistical Area based on the 2020 census — a move that shows our growing population — and officials expect it to boost business decisions. - ➤ Dr. Tara Mager was named the new superintendent of Northwest Education Services by the intermediate school district board on Wednesday. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traverse City experts say that limited broadband access deepens the digital divide affecting families, students and local businesses. At the upcoming commission meeting on Wednesday, April 2, officials will review an update on Project Alpha—a plan for a tornado-proof emergency center on the LaFranier campus estimated to cost between $11 million and $16 million—and approve boarder housing contracts with neighboring counties at $35 per inmate per day for the remainder of 2025. - ➤ Local winter sports teams had a busy season—Harbor Springs girls won the Division 2 state championship in skiing for the first time since 2015 while Traverse City Central girls reclaimed the Division 1 title after three years.
