- ➤ Seven people were hospitalized after a crash on US-131 near the Day Road intersection in Rapid River Township on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. — including a five-year-old in critical condition — when a northbound SUV, driven by a 19-year-old trying to pass a car turning left, struck another vehicle, and investigators said alcohol and drugs were not factors. - ➤ State and local officials celebrated the start of the $25.8 million M-72+M-22 roadway project in Leelanau County at Greilickville Harbor Park on Monday; one lane in each direction remained open as transit and sidewalk improvements began and removed trees will be replaced by mid-November. - ➤ Today, the Michigan Department of Transportation started construction at the M-72/M-22 intersection to convert it into a roundabout with added sidewalks and HAWK signals for pedestrians. Work on repaving the Mackinac Bridge will begin weather permitting — one lane will remain open in each direction until its planned completion by Memorial Day. 9&10 News
