  • Meijer is seeking a special use site plan to build a new store on US-31 in Blair Township that would include a drive-thru pharmacy, garden center, and gas station. The Blair Township Planning Commission will review the plan at a special meeting Tuesday, April 1 at 6 p.m.  UpNorthLive

CRIME NEWS

  • A Traverse City Police officer sustained minor injury when a driver headbutted him during a traffic stop near Barlow and Webster streets late Sunday night—after the officer pulled the vehicle on suspicion of drug use.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Northwest Michigan Ballet Theatre will present a new full-length ballet of The Sleeping Beauty at Dennos Museum’s Milliken Auditorium on Saturday, April 5 and Sunday, April 6 — with matinee and evening performances — using fresh choreography by artistic director Thomas Morrell and new designs that show Princess Aurora’s journey from her christening to her wedding celebration.  9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The planned groundbreaking for a $25.8M highway rebuild was delayed Monday morning at Greilickville Harbor Park—bad weather canceled the shoveling—as state and local dignitaries gathered to mark the project milestone.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • The updated child passenger safety laws will take effect April 2 and require children to ride in proper car seats that match their age, weight and height as shown by the manufacturer. Infants must ride rear-facing until they hit the car seat limit or turn 2, children from 2 to 5 must use forward-facing seats and those from 5 to 8 must use booster seats—all children under 13 must ride in the back seat if one is available.  9&10 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A group of northern Michigan women has raised over $30,000 selling $8 colored posters to help fund addiction support since a loss inspired the project five years ago. They are now offering 1,500 unfinished posters to anyone who continues the effort to support treatment – proceeds were used to buy Nalox boxes and aid local services.  UpNorthLive
