  • Northern Michigan food banks face rising need and uncertain funding as cuts force them to purchase food at full price. At Benzie Area Christian Neighbors, visits grew by 23% last year to nearly 9,000—leaders now plan to adjust buying methods while aiming to serve neighbors for another 40 years.  UpNorthLive
  • The family folk music band Hickory Creek Revival will perform Saturday at 7 p.m. at The Alluvion Theater downtown—ticket prices are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Feeding America West Michigan learned that 32 truckloads of food from the USDA—worth over $1M in supplies—scheduled between April and July have been cancelled until further notice due to funding cuts. The organization said it will continue its food distribution today at the Wexford County Civic Center—outside because a damaged roof forced indoor events to be cancelled—as community donors step in to support local food banks.  9&10 News

  • Meijer plans to build a new super center on a 33-acre site in Blair Township near Chum’s Corner that will include a grocery and general merchandise store, gas station, pharmacy, and garden center.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Due to severe weather, Consumers Energy postponed a planned power outage in Traverse City originally scheduled at 11 p.m. Saturday, March 29— it will now occur at 11 p.m. April 5 with a backup on April 6— customers with questions should call 800-477-5050.  UpNorthLive

  • A northern Michigan woman lost over $20,000 to an online romance scam when a fraudster posed as a sick celebrity to win her trust — her case is under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission.  UpNorthLive

  • City commissioners narrowly voted to set an April 7 public hearing on proposed changes to Traverse City's two-family zoning that would allow up to four homes per lot—this amendment lets developers split the lots into options like two duplexes, a triplex with a single-family home, or a quadplex.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Michigan residents must get a REAL ID by May 7 to fly, enter federal buildings, or travel to Canada and parts of Mexico, TSA rep Jessica Mayle said. Travelers should bring their original documents to prove their identity+legal presence, and some have already set up their appointments online.  UpNorthLive
