COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Two Northern Michigan men were awarded the Carnegie Medal in Cheboygan on March 21 after rescuing 73-year-old Charles Grenier from drowning in the Black River on March 10. The men, ice fishing at the time, used a powersports vehicle to reach Grenier (no injuries reported). 9&10 News
- ➤ State officials announced that taxpayers who checked the Animal Welfare Fund box helped award $150,000 in grants to 24 shelters, and Great Lakes Humane Society in Traverse City will receive $5,000. The funds support local animal care efforts. Traverse City Record-Eagle

- ➤ A GoFundMe was set up to support Michelle Hoeksema after last week’s explosion left her with severe injuries and required her airlift to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City; her recovery is expected to take at least six months while community members help her family. UpNorthLive
