  • Local merchants will host the Signs of Spring Scavenger Hunt downtown from April 18 to 26 (family-friendly event) to help shoppers support independent shops and restaurants.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Grand Traverse Bay YMCA is offering spring break fitness classes, water aerobics sessions, and child care for families staying in the area. Programs will run during the break as school districts across northern Michigan enjoy time off from classes.  UpNorthLive

  • A Yak or 2 Great Lakes Ranch in Kalkaska County is wrapping up its yak brushing season today to prepare for summer tours. The ranch will welcome visitors soon as it gears up for a busy season.  UpNorthLive
  • The Northern Michigan Manufacturing Summit will feature industry leaders on April 13 at Northwestern Michigan College's Hagerty Center.   • Traverse City leaders are reviewing proposals to lease the old library in Old Town; Crooked Tree Arts Center earned a perfect score — while the local history center proposal received a slightly lower score — as officials decide on a future tenant.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cadillac Area YMCA is set to offer two day camp programs this summer (Camp Torenta and YMCA-based) for kids aged 6 to 12. They run daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. between mid-June and early August and families should register soon as spots are limited.  UpNorthLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In a year following a severe ice storm, the DNR continues clearing debris from forests, roads, and campgrounds in northern Michigan while replanting trees to reduce wildfire risks. Efforts began last spring and crews now call for more fire funding & timber salvage while cleaning remaining roads.  UpNorthLive
