  • Chipotle is planned as a freestanding restaurant at the southwest corner of the former Macy's parking lot at Grand Traverse Mall — Garfield Township planning commissioners will review the site plan on Wednesday.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Northern Michigan Startup Week returns to Traverse City later this month. Organized by Bradley Matson, the event will run April 20-April 24 and include dozens of startup networking events and panels supported by local colleges and venture capital firms.  9&10 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Veteran performer David Lee Roth will play at the Fourth of July show at the National Cherry Festival and bring his rock act to Traverse City on Independence Day.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Forest to Fork: A Springtime Gathering is a new culinary event scheduled May 14—17 in Traverse City. The event offers foraging excursions, vineyard walks, cooking classes and seasonal dinners that celebrate local flavors and spring bounty.  9&10 News

  • Traverse Connect released its 2025 Annual Report today (highlighting advanced air mobility initiatives), featuring the region’s first medical drone delivery from last spring and the groundbreaking of a $28.9 million research facility set to open in 2027, along with efforts in local business networking and housing assistance.  9&10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kiwanis Club of Traverse City recognized several students as Students of the Month for March on April 6. Grace McSparron (a Traverse City West Senior High student active in Key Club, cross country, and track) plans to earn an associate’s degree from Northwestern Michigan College before transferring to a four-year university for physical therapy.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Center for Biological Diversity warned that wood turtle numbers in Michigan have dropped 50% in the past decade and over half of their habitat has vanished. Experts urge building under-road tunnels — safe passages that help reduce impacts from heavy development.  UpNorthLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Munson Healthcare Voices is in its fourth year hosting a food access art contest that features a virtual gallery for community voting; winners in both adult and youth categories will allocate a $1,000 donation from Munson Healthcare to a food pantry of their choice.  UpNorthLive
  • TC Street medicine mobile unit visited Good Samaritan Pantry in Ellsworth this week to offer essential medical services to those in need. The unit will return every other Friday (10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and visit the Mancelona Food Pantry on the second and fourth Thursdays.  UpNorthLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local seniors Molly Anderson from Cadillac and Mackenzie Bisballe from Lake City led the GVSU Lakers to a 72-49 win in the NCAA Division II championship game — marking the first back-to-back title win since 2001-2002. Anderson ends her career and will attend upcoming games to support the team.  9&10 News
  • Former Elk Rapids athlete Max Ward shone in his outdoor debut at Lake Superior State today, finishing fourth in the 400-meter and 110-meter hurdles. Coach Matt Stith praised his near-record times as the Lakers prepare for the Chippewa Challenge in Mt. Pleasant on April 11.  9&10 News
