  • Two men were arrested for a home invasion on Sparling Road in Fife Lake Township on April 4 — the sheriff's office also recovered stolen firearms linked to a break-in in Paradise Township.  UpNorthLive
  • Traverse City woman Jessica Perkins pleaded guilty on Monday to third-offense operating while intoxicated and fleeing police and was sentenced to between two and five years in prison—she received 139 days credit and was ordered to pay $1,508 for vehicle damage plus $3,553 for extradition.  UpNorthLive

  • Yesterday, the Kiwanis Club of Traverse City recognized Kira Adams as Student of the Month—she is a senior at Traverse City West Senior High with many leadership roles and a 4.0 GPA. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • An 8-acre wildfire broke out in Grand Traverse County over the weekend, prompting fire crews from Whitewater Township to help control the blaze near Fife Lake. Fire officials warn that the spring dip keeps wildfire risk high due to dry fuels — urging residents to avoid open burning until permits are issued.  UpNorthLive
  • Power companies are rebuilding over 750 utility poles and installing more than 700 miles of new wire to restore power after a massive ice storm left over 100,000 homes without electricity across a dozen counties. Crews from across the country are working day and night to repair damage—progress is expected to speed up when warmer, drier weather improves conditions—while company leaders say they appreciate local support for the effort.  UpNorthLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan National Guard cleared 500 roads, delivered 3,000 meals, and did 8,000 wellness checks from Camp Grayling after beginning work on April 3—helping communities hit by an ice storm. The Guard will remain on the ground to support recovery efforts in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula as needed.  UpNorthLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • After March ice storms caused power outages, Munson Healthcare hospitals in Charlevoix, Grayling and Otsego Memorial and McLaren Northern Michigan have all restored full services—resuming outpatient clinics, emergency care and provider offices. Affected patients will be contacted to reschedule missed appointments, and emergency departments remain open for care.  9&10 News
