GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered a major speech in Washington D.C. on Wednesday where she laid out a bipartisan plan for economic strategy and warned that expecting a tariff from a country or company is misleading. • Traverse City commissioners shelved a zoning proposal on Monday that would have allowed four dwellings on a two-family residential lot—this change would have combined duplex, triplex and single-family structures. They set aside the amendment due to a lack of consensus.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan healthcare experts warn that if the House plan cutting $2 billion from Medicaid and reducing its funding by 16% is adopted, rural hospitals may reduce services—clinics and labor units risk closing and care for many Northern Michigan patients, including about a quarter of adults and a third of children, could suffer. Lawmakers have not yet proposed specific cuts and experts expect the impact to extend beyond just Medicaid patients.  9&10 News
  • An unknown third party accessed a CPS Solutions employee's email account from Dec. 2 to Dec. 4, 2024, potentially affecting Munson Healthcare patients as reported by UnitedHealth Group Media—we learned that Munson Healthcare was notified on Feb. 10 and is offering affected individuals two years of free credit monitoring and identity protection services.  UpNorthLive
