Traverse City's NoBo Riverside is set to get a new chef and a fresh look inside the Commongrounds Cooperative building on Eighth Street — the change will bring a new menu, coffee shop, and catering service to the community.

On Friday, brothers Dakota and Garret Porter hosted a kickoff party at Mt. Holiday in Traverse City before beginning a national tour to sell their LED lighting products from ActionGlow, which they founded as teenagers on a snowboarding trip.

They will stop at mom-and-pop shops and schools across the country to promote youth entrepreneurship while sharing their journey on social media.

A new high school Heavy Equipment/Diesel Mechanic program at Northwest Education Services’ Career Tech Center will start next fall to help meet the local need for diesel mechanics.

Juniors and seniors can enroll now in the program to gain hands-on training for future jobs.

Traverse City Light & Power approved a $46,626,892 operating budget for fiscal year 2025/26, which is nearly 11 percent higher than last year's plan due to rising energy purchase costs—City Commission will review the plan on May 12.
