COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Team Elmer's is providing flood services to protect roads & homes in Traverse City as crews respond to calls from residents and local officials. They are working quickly to limit damage until rainfall eases.  9&10 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Traverse City firefighters responded to a building blaze near Rare Bird Brewpub and Archie's Social House on Lake Street early Thursday. Crews saw flames and one or two propane tanks exploded before they inspected a nearby establishment.  9&10 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Crews and engineers responded swiftly after Monday morning’s flash flood placed water in the FishPass dry zone near the post office behind the AT&T building. Pumps have drained the excess runoff + work remains on track for possible completion next year.  UpNorthLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Fire trucks and an ambulance gathered outside Sleder’s Tavern on Thursday night, with firefighters reporting no smoke or flames and the investigation remaining open.  9&10 News
  • Authorities and community members are seeking help finding Tom Reed, last seen riding his black and white e-bike in the Grand Traverse area; a sighting was reported Tuesday at the TC Library — call the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office if you see him.  UpNorthLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Water levels remained stable at Bellaire Dam on Thursday as county officials kept the Ready protocol in place for homes along the Intermediate River; emergency teams used drones and boats to check for floating hazards that might damage the dam.  UpNorthLive
  • The Boardman River near Mayfield has fallen to 6.67 feet and moved into the Action Stage as flood warnings remain until 7:45 p.m. EDT Sunday. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roads & report dangerous water levels as needed.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • The American Red Cross opened emergency shelters at four northern Michigan locations at 3:30 p.m. today; Bellaire residents are asked to restrict water use amid flooding caused by heavy rain & snowmelt that also flooded Hannah Park in downtown Traverse City.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians finalized the purchase of Northwestern Michigan College’s Boardman Lake Campus on Wednesday in Traverse City. The move is seen as a step forward in expanding the tribe’s local community resources.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
