- ➤ Sleder’s Family Tavern, Michigan’s oldest continuously operated restaurant in Traverse City, is set to say goodbye to longtime caretaker Kurt Henry, who died April 6 just shy of his 70th birthday; he worked there for over 40 years — sometimes nearly 50 — often long after the customers had left. The inaugural Great Lakes Child Safety Conference will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Traverse City Central High School, beginning at 4:00 p.m. The free conference is presented in collaboration with Northwestern Michigan College (NMC), Northwest Education Services, Rotary, and Traverse City Area Public Schools.
