  • Leonard Lokay, a World War II veteran, turned 104 today at the Villa at Traverse Point where a crowd gathered to honor his birthday. He had celebrated three days earlier at his nursing home with his daughters Janice Lokay and Nancy Henry and son-in-law Tom Henry along with hospice staff.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Farmers markets are set to open soon for spring and summer and include the Sara Hardy Downtown Farmers Market operating on Saturday mornings (starting in May) along with East Bay Corners and Leelanau markets offering weekday and weekend schedules from May through October.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • A Traverse City man—36-year-old Christopher Genereaux—was arrested on meth and cocaine possession charges after a pickup he was riding in was stopped for a moving violation last week in Benzie County, and he is now held in Benzie County Jail as Michigan State Police reported Friday.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Benzie County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police are searching for a missing 14-year-old boy from Leelanau County who was last seen Friday wearing a dark blue t-shirt, black shorts, and gray Crocs near Crystal Drive — Warren Road in Benzonia Township while crews check property cameras and use K9 teams.  UpNorthLive
  • Police are actively searching for a missing 14-year-old male from the Crystal Drive/Warren Road area in Benzie County after he was last seen on April 18—he was described as a White teen, 5'9" with dark brown hair wearing a dark blue t-shirt with red and white USA Pickleball lettering, black shorts and gray Crocs—and authorities ask anyone with information to call Benzie County Central Dispatch.  9&10 News
  • A 14 year old boy from Leelanau County who was reported missing overnight was found early this morning as Michigan State Police from the Traverse City Post helped the Benzie County Sheriff’s Office end the search — confirming his safety — and officials have not released any more details.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Kingsley schools provided grief support after a 35-year-old woman died waiting in a car in the parking lot of Kingsley Elementary School (3:15 p.m. Monday). The school's crisis team met with students and families to help them cope with the loss.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Breanna Hannula of the Michigan On-Farm Produce Safety Program at the Grand Traverse Conservation District explained that the updated Agricultural Water Rule now requires produce farms that use agricultural water to complete an Agricultural Water Assessment instead of water tests.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
