  • Short’s Brewing has launched two new Pure Michigan beverages (Hard Cider and Cherry Kölsch) made with Michigan apples and King Orchards cherries. They will be available in stores and at breweries, with Pure Michigan brews featured during the company’s 22nd anniversary event on Saturday, April 25.  9&10 News
  • Venture North held a free workshop titled Bootstrapped to Bankable from 4 to 7 on April 22 at Huntington Bank (625 S. Garfield Ave) where local entrepreneurs learned about bank needs, capital options and startup support offered with help from 20Fathoms and Northern Michigan Start Up Week.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • The historic Cherry Bowl Drive-in (73rd season) in Benzie County is now open and will offer families classic outdoor movie experiences.  UpNorthLive
  • Traverse City commissioners voted 5-2 on Monday to ask City Manager Benjamin Marentette to explore letting Crooked Tree Arts Center and Traverse Area District Library share the Carnegie Building as a combined arts and history center. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kiwanis Club of Traverse City honored students for April 14 including senior Bailey Wenzlick of Traverse City West who received recognition for academic and athletic achievements (she plans to study Environmental Science at Lake Superior State University). Other awardees were celebrated for their excellence.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Northwestern Michigan College extended education will host Campus Day 2026 on Friday, May 8 at its Front Street Campus where attendees can choose three sessions from over forty topics and enjoy coffee, donuts, and lunch for $75. Registration is open online, by phone, or in person at the Boardman Lake Campus.  9&10 News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Dennos Museum held a free Earth Day clothing swap that brought hundreds of residents together to trade gently used items and reduce textile waste. Organizers plan to host the event again next year to continue promoting sustainable practices.  9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traverse City's contractor closed Lot A and the 100 block of East Front Street alley yesterday for sinkhole repair after flooding; repair work is expected to continue intermittently into next week. The city advised drivers to use alternate routes (for safety).  9&10 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Munson Medical Center has launched a state-of-the-art weapons detection system — using advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to scan for threats at the hospital’s entrance — after a recent rise in safety incidents including a staff threat.  UpNorthLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northern Michigan Dragway in Kaleva has rescheduled its season opener to Saturday, April 25 after crews restored the track following regional flooding; gates open at 10 a.m. and test & tune sessions run from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with pit passes costing $10 for adults and free admission for children 12 and under.  9&10 News
  • Traverse City West grad Jack Griffiths earned his first win as a starter for Central Michigan by pitching six innings with one run allowed against Youngstown State and will pitch again (Apr. 28, 5:30 p.m.) against Notre Dame. He continues to build on his strong performance after summer.  9&10 News
