  • Northwest Michigan Action Agency hosts the 11th annual Moomers for Meals today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Moomers Homemade Ice Cream on N. Long Lake Road — proceeds from the hot fudge sundae bar and 10 percent of daily sales benefit seniors receiving Meals on Wheels in Leelanau, Wexford, Missaukee and Grand Traverse counties.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Traverse City middle school robotics teams build fully functioning robots for competitions — they meet in a small conference room, run fundraisers to cover a $1,800 registration fee, and rely on local sponsors for travel support — while coaches emphasize that strong teamwork prepares students for future events. Coaches say the program not only builds technical skills but also helps kids learn leadership and problem-solving for upcoming championships.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The American Public Works Association awarded Traverse City's 2023 sewer main relocation along the Boardman-Ottaway River the 2025 National Project of the Year Award (for projects costing between $1 million and $5 million) and the project's Michigan chapter also recognized it.   • The Downtown Development Authority will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. May 16 in the Commission Chambers on the second floor of the Government Center to review its 2025-26 spending plans—officials expect the process to improve from last year.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Traverse City Police secured a mobile surveillance camera system after the Downtown Development Authority board approved up to $40,250 on Friday morning—this four-camera, solar-powered trailer will provide security at downtown events.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
