- ➤ AAUW of Traverse City will present the Grand Traverse Region ATHENA Award at 5 p.m. May 8 at Kirkbride Hall at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons — the nominees include Deb Allen, Dana Frost, Deb Jackson, Eva Petoskey, Marjie Rich, and Karen Schmidt, who are recognized for their leadership and service across select counties in the region. - ➤ The Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation awarded $684,960 to 98 local organizations this week (including nonprofits in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau counties) using designated endowment funds to support arts and culture, education, environment, health and human services, and youth programs. - ➤ Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City is expanding its terminal and parking lots to meet record passenger growth and will add a JetBlue flight to Boston beginning June 5. The airport is also constructing a cell phone lot, car rental area, and economy parking lot near Costco — changes expected to lower ticket prices as larger planes cut costs — which signal further growth. 9&10 News

- ➤ A Benzie County deputy chase ended in a fatal crash on M115 on April 27 at 8:50 p.m. when a driver wanted for felonies in Antrim County swerved into eastbound traffic—hitting a van carrying members and coaches of the Charlevoix golf team, with the suspect dying and all seven occupants taken to Munson Medical Center. 9&10 News

- ➤ Traverse City Uncorked will run from May 2 to 10 to celebrate National Wine Month by offering special events and daily wine-themed activities focused on northern Michigan wineries — participants can download a digital passport for savings, offers and prize draws. UpNorthLive

- ➤ Today, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released a treasure map to help morel mushroom hunters find wildfire areas where jack, white and red pine once grew. The map advises visitors to use a compass or GPS to stay on trail. UpNorthLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Grand Traverse Parks and Rec demolished the bridge on the walking track at the Civic Center to upgrade safety; the path is now closed for pedestrians until further notice. The county will build a new bridge and running track with completion set for July 25th — a 2022 study revealed severe corrosion that put over 200 daily users at risk. 9&10 News
