- ➤ On May 6, voters in eight local school districts will decide on funding proposals to pay for school repairs, safety upgrades and new technology. Each measure, whether a millage or bond, will cost homeowners different amounts per $1,000 of taxable value—details vary by district. 9&10 News

- ➤ State Rep. Parker Fairbairn submitted a request to DNR Director Scott Bowen on May 1 to remove the permit fee and restrictions on the Fuelwood Permit Program through the end of 2025 so residents can collect more wood from roadside areas after last month’s ice storm. The proposal would let residents collect unlimited cords of dead wood free of charge – providing a faster way to clear debris in northern Michigan. 9&10 News
- ➤ Elk and bear license applications are on sale now through June 1 — hunters can also buy a $5 Pure Michigan Hunt application to boost their chance for extra tags. Previous recipient Jerry Peak of Crystal secured two elk tags and transferred one to his son — and each purchase supports wildlife habitat restoration. 9&10 News
