  • Northern Lakes Economic Alliance hosted its annual symposium at Boyne Mountain on May 9, where business and community leaders discussed legacy planning for aging business owners and recovery after a March ice storm — the event also noted a $100M relief package approved by the Michigan House and honored first responders. A region-wide survey reported 66% of businesses closed for over four days, with 230 reporting an estimated $6.4M lost in revenue.  UpNorthLive

  • Traverse City Tourism is planning a new festival called Traverse City Food and Wine in August that will focus on local farms, wineries and culinary businesses, and the event will include a Grand Tasting on Aug. 23 where people can try small samples of wine—local craft beverages, small bites and non-alcoholic drinks.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Asparagus farmers in Northern Michigan are preparing for a promising harvest as the crop sprouts on local farms and warm weather is expected to reduce frost risk + one local farmer will start picking on Monday while another plans to open his stand by Wednesday + the statewide crop is reported in excellent condition.  UpNorthLive

  • Grand Traverse County Road Commission announced lane closures on South Airport Road between Veterans Drive and Cass Road starting at 7 a.m. today for sidewalk replacement—work is expected to last a few days—and drivers are advised to use an alternate route to avoid delays.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Michigan lawmakers are working on a plan to boost road funding statewide while the Michigan County Road Association questions a study that calls for a complete overhaul of the funding system—released at the end of March and ranking Michigan 30th for road funding and 40th for road conditions.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Retired nurse Patricia 'Keli' MacIntosh, 78, said she felt relieved after the Grand Traverse County board settled her four-year lawsuit on Saturday—she noted repeated delays and vowed to keep fighting until she takes her last breath.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Traverse City commissioners will review a draft budget today that calls for $88.4 million across government activities—$33,521,400 in enterprise funds and $25,455,000 in general funds—and outlines spending plans from July through June 2026.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • The Cadillac VA Clinic was renamed in honor of local hero Duane E. Dewey, a Medal of Honor recipient who saved fellow Marines during the Korean War by using his body to shield a second grenade — his family, Congressman John Moolenaar and local veterans attended the dedication ceremony that featured a memorial display of his achievements.  UpNorthLive
  • City planning commissioners voted 6—2 to recommend new limits on short-term rentals for new multi-unit buildings in additional districts—including rules for C-3 Community Center, C-4 Regional Center, D-1 and D-3 zones and barring them in Industrial zones.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
