BUSINESS NEWS

  • Blue Goat Wine and Provisions introduced a new menu featuring wine bar offerings, charcuterie and snacks from local shops (Benjamin Twiggs and Shorties). The move, announced today in Traverse City, adds a fresh twist in anticipation of the summer season.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Award-winning rapper Ludacris will headline the final concert at the 100th National Cherry Festival on Saturday, July 11 at Pepsi Bayside Music Stage; tickets went on sale (Friday, March 15 at 9 a.m.).  9&10 News
  • From May 22-25, Jordan Valley Glassworks will release handcrafted Niijima floats honoring Northern Michigan veterans along Lake Charlevoix, Grand Traverse Bay + other waterways. The tradition, ongoing since 2000, features engraved glass floats made at the East Jordan studio at 209 State St.  9&10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 1,900 students from 25 local schools explored career opportunities at the civic center on May 7, testing out trades such as construction, healthcare, manufacturing & technology. More than 60 community volunteers helped set up hands-on displays that let students try real work tasks.  9&10 News
  • Traverse City Area Public Schools earned a $2,500 grant on Tuesday, May 12 for its Student Support Network assisting over 1,500 students with basic needs. The district was named one of 12 recipients of the Education Excellence Award by the SET SEG Foundation (partnering with Michigan Association of School Boards).  9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials from the state, FEMA, and SBA traveled on Tuesday and will continue into this week to assess flood damage and meet with local homeowners and businesses in Benzie and Charlevoix counties. Their findings will guide the state in requesting federal disaster declarations and aiding affected property owners.  UpNorthLive
  • Elk Rapids received a conditional $2 million DOT commitment for a 1.6-mile Nakwema Trailway (supporting safe, non-motorized connectivity) as project partners work to complete design, permitting and environmental reviews before implementation.  9&10 News
  • Michigan Secretary of State is partnering with local groups to offer free Road to Restoration clinics for drivers to restore licenses. In Gaylord, the clinic is Tuesday, May 19 at E-Free Church, 1649 E M-32, and in Traverse City it is Wednesday, May 20 at Michigan Works.  9&10 News
  • Cherry Capital Airport firefighters completed a live burn training Tuesday using three rescue trucks as the airport prepares to upgrade to a federal Index C classification this summer. The drill, supported by Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, tested rapid response times and new fluorine-free foam.  9&10 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Over 1,000 people have received care at the mental health center in Traverse City since its January 2025 opening, which introduced 24/7 access later that summer. Munson and Northern Lakes plan to expand services further as Chief Operating Officer Laura Glenn updates county commissioners today.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Traverse City St. Francis and Petoskey ended a 2-2 tie in a close Division 3 soccer game on Tuesday at Glads. Petoskey finished with a 7-4-1 record and still has three games before districts.  9&10 News
