  • Traverse City Tourism announced plans for a new food and wine festival to highlight the region’s culinary, farming, and wine scenes for a national audience. Leaders met Monday morning at the visitors center (with many wearing festival aprons) to outline the event’s goal of defining the region as a top food destination.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Traverse City bike shops are seeing a surge in business this summer—boosting local spending as riders enjoy popular trails—and TART Trails reported over 50% of its 500,000 yearly visits are by bicyclists who shop and dine along their routes.  9&10 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Traverse City Police Department, Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office and the Traverse City Post of the Michigan State Police will host the annual Police Memorial Service this Thursday at 2 p.m. in front of the Governmental Center on Boardman Avenue—part of National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week—and will honor officers who died in the line of duty.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • City commissioners approved—a measure worth $365,323 in Community Development Block Grant funding—to support housing and additional services as Traverse City joins a metropolitan planning organization.
