  • Traverse City Coast Guard Auxiliary will hold a three-hour paddling safety class on May 22 (6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) at the Coast Guard Air Station. The class will cover weather conditions, hypothermia prevention, kayak types, and paddle equipment with a $15 fee; pre-registration is due by today.  UpNorthLive

  • Traverse City Tourism handed out the High Five Hospitality Awards to 11 local professionals during its annual meeting last Thursday afternoon at the Grand Traverse Resort—Spa, drawing nearly 300 attendees who support the region’s hospitality industry.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • The inaugural Blessing of the Boats will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 14 at Dockside on Torch Lake. Pastor David Ramage from Church in the Hills in Bellaire will lead the ceremony aimed at promoting safety and gratitude as the boating season begins — organizers hope it will become an annual tradition.  9&10 News

  • The Kiwanis Club recognized Austin Miller, a senior at Traverse City Christian High School, as Student of the Month for his strong academics and athletic achievements—he earned high honors all four years and plans to attend Cornerstone University to play basketball and study business and ministry.   • Munson Healthcare is testing drones to deliver medical supplies faster across its Traverse City facilities.
