A Memorial Day ceremony was held at the Traverse City Veterans Memorial, where veterans, families, and friends gathered to lay wreaths and hear Gold Star Mother Kathy Moyer's speech honoring fallen service members.

Attendees later visited a memorial plaque to remember their loved ones.

At Clinch Marina, marine fuel prices have risen with gas at $6.49 per gallon and diesel at $5.79, yet boaters remain eager to hit the water as slip reservations fill early amid warmer weather.

Madeline Smith, a senior at Traverse City St. Francis High School, was named Student of the Month by the Kiwanis Club of Traverse City on Monday, May 25.

The club noted her leadership in Teens for Life and academic success, and she plans to study business at the University of Michigan.

A bobcat kitten injured at a West Bay marina was cared for eight months at West Michigan Wildlife Center before being released earlier this month with its three sibling bobcats.

The animal showed high energy and health as it ventured into its natural territory.

The state legislature is considering a bill that would let sportsman organizations auction five extra Pure Michigan hunting licenses to top bidders, which could bring extra funds for outdoor programs (organizations keep 7.5% of proceeds).

The proposal is still in committee review.
