  • At Veterans Memorial Park, community members gathered as the Grand Traverse Veterans Coalition held its annual Memorial Day service to honor veterans who died in service. Bill Sweet, owner of Sweet’s Bar and Grill, began a 116-mile walk along M22 to raise funds for Reigning Liberty Ranch—a nonprofit that helps families and veterans cope with loss.  9&10 News
  • Benzie Sunrise Rotary Club has partnered with Crystal Mountain to host the 17th annual Bike Benzie Tour, a charity ride that supports local community projects. Cyclists can choose from the 30-mile, 46-mile + 62-mile scenic routes with food stops, and packet pickup is available Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at James Bay in the Crystal Center lower level.  UpNorthLive
  • Parents in northern Michigan face long waiting lists and high fees for daycare, with costs reaching nearly $14,000 a year and a study finding one open spot for every three kids.   • On May 26, the Kiwanis Club named Lizzie Harrand, a senior at Traverse City St. Francis High School in the Creative Writing and Book Clubs, Student of the Month for her strong academic work and club activities.   • Traverse City's Sewer and Water Maintenance Division began replacing galvanized water lines to ensure clean drinking water and said residents and businesses would maintain full access during the work—city officials expect the project to finish by fall.  UpNorthLive
  • Housing North from Traverse City is asking for $10 million to boost its Rapid Response Housing Fund for affordable housing in northern Michigan, as the fund currently holds only $300,000 to serve 10 counties — state Representative John Roth and executive director Yarrow Brown urge lawmakers to support the next state budget and provide a sustainable cycle through repaid loans with interest.
