- ➤ The 139 Native American men of Company K were honored at a road dedication ceremony Wednesday in Peshabestown (their final muster and roll call) as a tribute to their service. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ St. Clair Butterfly Foundation celebrated 19 years of supporting teachers, doctors and law enforcement with trauma-informed practices at Commongrounds in Traverse City Thursday. The event introduced a Northern Michigan advisory board and a three-year collaboration with Benzie County groups to strengthen local support systems. 9&10 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four welding students at Kirtland Community College built a portable X-ray frame for the tribal eagle rehab center run by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians. They designed the frame in May as a practical project to help the staff safely take radiographs of injured eagles. 9&10 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The US-31 rebuilding project near Interlochen will begin June 2 or June 3 with a ($32.5 million investment) to widen the road and add safety features, causing northbound traffic to detour via local roads while work continues into July. 9&10 News
- ➤ Grand Traverse County officials warned on Wednesday that cleaning up debris in the Boardman River will take weeks due to hazardous materials posing life-threatening risks. They ordered the closure of several river access points to protect public safety. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ Traverse Area District Library and Crooked Tree Arts Center are exploring a joint occupancy plan for the Carnegie Building with discussions led by the city manager and a final decision expected by September. The City approved a one-year lease extension for Crooked Tree Arts Center through Oct. 31, 2027. 9&10 News
