  • Local animal shelters are showcasing adoptable pets; a putt-for-paws golf event is planned for Thursday, June 18 at Birchwood Farms while a can drive runs on Saturday, June 6 in Traverse City, and shelters in Harbor Springs (Little Traverse Bay) and Traverse City (Cherryland) feature pets.  UpNorthLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Traverse City musician Justin Avery has joined the internationally loved band Chicago after first performing at Friday Night Live. He now sings hits like 25 or 6 to 4 and Saturday in the Park as he brings his local roots to major stages.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • At 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, the museum's Discovery Gallery will host Summer Storytimes in partnership with the Traverse Area District Library. Families can enjoy dinosaur-themed read-alouds, songs, and activities in the free program designed to give young learners and caregivers a fun, interactive start to summer.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • Downtown Traverse City Association hosted an Art Walk on May 29 and will hold one on June 5, inviting locals to explore art. It includes Old Town Arts & Crafts Fair on June 13 and National Cherry Festival Arts & Crafts Fair on July 5 & offers interactive displays.  9&10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2026 continue today as Suttons Bay Senior High hosts its ceremony at 6 p.m. in its auditorium and TCAPS holds two ceremonies at Milliken Auditorium (1410 College Drive) at 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • More than 100 middle school students from Traverse City West & East are studying microplastic pollution to design community solutions. They will join a beach cleanup at Clinch Park on Sunday, May 31, from 3 to 5 p.m.  UpNorthLive
  • Traverse City Area Public Schools filled 32 vacancies out of 46 for next school year and will continue hiring through the summer. The district offers virtual meetings, credential checks, and in-person interviews while assisting new hires with housing at West Senior High and West Middle School.  9&10 News

  • Volunteers across Northern Michigan will soon test water quality in streams in the Grand Traverse Bay Watershed, using tools + measurements to track water health. The data will help guide future environmental improvements.  UpNorthLive

  • Grand Traverse County Veterans Affairs is launching a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter mobile office to help the 7,000 local veterans access federal, state and local benefits.
