  • Traverse City veterans meet weekly at Oleson’s Food Store near the intersection of Hammond and Three Mile roads to share their memories and discuss daily events.   • Project Feed the Kids will host its annual Spring Carnival Fundraiser this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of J&S Hamburg on South Airport Road.   • Traverse City college planner Vicki L. Beam said the Class of 2025 should review financial aid packages and loan options to plan for college costs—she advises students to work summer jobs and ask questions to prepare for first year needs. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local fishing agencies tested a new method to control invasive sea lamprey by sterilizing males to prevent successful reproduction and reduce larval numbers by more than 90% in the Maple, Pidgeon, and Sturgeon Rivers—research that may offer an extra tool in streams where traditional methods are difficult to use— although its widespread application is still limited by the number of available males. This study was led by research ecologist Nick Johnson at the Hammond Bay Biological Station.  UpNorthLive

  • City commissioners will discuss a request from the Northwest Michigan Coalition to End Homelessness for $1M to fund permanent supportive housing at a study session today—executive director Ashley Halladay-Schmandt will pitch her proposal.
