ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 8, Leelanau County deputies and Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a body in the water at the marina in the Village of Suttons Bay and later determined that 66-year-old Robert Charles Clark of Traverse City had fallen off a dock after 11 p.m., with alcohol allegedly involved—officials continue the investigation.  9&10 News
  • A deputy from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office was injured when his patrol vehicle flipped into a ditch on Garfield Road near Family Lane after a turning car hit it from behind while he was responding to a personal injury crash with lights and sirens on.  UpNorthLive

  • A new indoor trampoline park is planned for Cherryland Center in Traverse City pending township approval as the planning commission will vote on the application tomorrow—this park will occupy the old Big Lots building and add to the center’s shift toward entertainment.  9&10 News

  • The Michigan wine industry is set to have nearly $9 billion in economic impact this year according to Wine America's study, with about 300 wineries, 28,000 direct jobs (and almost double the overall wages) helping boost the region and attract 1.7 million tourist visits.  UpNorthLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwestern Michigan College students Riley Brown—and Anna Berg—received $500 scholarships from the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates program, with funds going directly to the institutions they choose. Brown will attend Grand Valley State University this fall while Berg plans to pursue an associate degree in nursing.  9&10 News

  • After giving city commissioners an update on progress and needs Monday, the Northwest Michigan Coalition to End Homelessness asked Traverse City for $1M to expand permanent support housing by offering incentives to landlords, converting unutilized properties, and securing affordable units—officials plan to review funding for the 2025–2026 budget while the coalition will present to the Grand Traverse County Commission on June 11.  UpNorthLive
