- ➤ Rotary Charities of Traverse City selected six non-profit organizations to share $375,000 in grant awards to support local community programs. - ➤ The Traverse City Area Public Schools Board of Education approved a resolution Monday to apply for a Rotary Charities grant that will help create a charitable foundation for vulnerable students — a $20,000 grant will fund a consultant to set up the 501(c)(3) foundation. - ➤ Local governments and partner agencies in Traverse City are working to end chronic homelessness, but a lack of long-term supportive housing is slowing progress — the Northwest Michigan Coalition to End Homelessness has asked the city for up to $1 million a year to fill the gap. - ➤ The Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority board approved a process to reduce an $8.7 million deficit by considering cost-saving measures—such as laying off 30 employees—with detailed plans to be reviewed in a future vote.
