GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local governments and partner agencies in Traverse City are working to end chronic homelessness, but a lack of long-term supportive housing is slowing progress — the Northwest Michigan Coalition to End Homelessness has asked the city for up to $1 million a year to fill the gap. Targeted efforts so far have quickly rehoused people who recently lost their homes and helped those with long-term needs find shelter.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority board approved a process to reduce an $8.7 million deficit by considering cost-saving measures—such as laying off 30 employees—with detailed plans to be reviewed in a future vote. Interim CEO Brian Martinus said the plan may increase caseloads for remaining staff and shift some employees to contractor roles.  9&10 News
  • Munson Healthcare released its 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment which found that access to care, mental health and economic security are top priorities for Northern Michigan after an 18‑month review with MiThrive covering 31 counties.
