  • A researcher from the University of Michigan said consumer sentiment remains near record lows but has improved slightly as tariff policy uncertainty eased — local Traverse City business owners report that visitors are spending more cautiously and making shorter stays.  9&10 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Michigan's national ranking in educational outcomes dropped three positions to 44th—its overall child well-being rank improved to 33rd—in the 36th Annual KIDS COUNT Data Book released in June by the Annie E.   • An open house to outline plans for a Grand Traverse County zoning atlas will take place on June 26 at West Shore Bank in downtown Traverse City from 2:30 to 4 p.m. — interested residents can register online.  Traverse City Record-Eagle
  • County officials in Traverse City will save about $38,000 over the next three years by renegotiating a non-hazardous waste collection contract with GFL Environmental Inc — the new deal cuts costs by 26.3% — showcasing careful fiscal planning by the County Facilities Department.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Grand Traverse County Health Department confirmed the first measles case since 2019 in a resident who had close contact with a traveler from out of state and reported no public exposures. Officials have notified potential contacts and will hold a walk in vaccination clinic on Friday, June 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to help stop the spread.  UpNorthLive
