  • Everett Howell, a Greenspire High School Class of 2025 co-valedictorian, recalls his high school days each time he sees the two linden trees in his yard — they grew strong despite challenges when the new charter school opened in 2021. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A severe thunderstorm hit parts of northern Michigan Saturday morning, dropping dime to quarter sized hail in Traverse City, Williamsburg and Maple City, knocking down a 50-foot tree in Cedar and causing some street flooding in Traverse City. Later Saturday through Monday, a heat dome will build — temperatures will reach the upper-80s in the north and mid-90s in the south with a heat index near 100 — before cooler weather returns Tuesday.  UpNorthLive
