ECONOMY NEWS

  • Traverse City officials reflected on the 99th National Cherry Festival turnout as visitors increased from June 28th through July 4th, making it hard to gauge exact attendance due to the non-gated setup. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traverse City commissioners agreed on Monday to raise the board of tax review’s per diem payment to $313—an increase of $8.76—based on a recommendation from the five-member Local Officers Compensation Commission.   • A federal judge ruled that Peninsula Township must pay nearly $50 million to 11 local wineries—this decision comes after 2017 ordinances limited event sizes and merchandise sales, and it will give wineries a more stable outlook while the township may appeal parts of the ruling.  9&10 News
  • Grand Traverse County commissioners meet today at 9 a.m. in Traverse City to review challenges in the courts and the prosecutor’s office ahead of the 2026 budget season—findings from the session will help guide potential changes in county services.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis and Access Center now operates 24/7 and offers Psychiatric Urgent Care services Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Operated by Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority and Munson Healthcare, the center has grown since its January soft launch — and it plans to add adult and pediatric crisis residential units later pending licensing and staffing.  9&10 News
