- ➤ Downtown Traverse City will host its annual Downtown Street Sale on Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. as Front Street is closed for retailers, and Friday Night Live will offer live music, street performers and vendors starting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 1 and continuing on Aug. 8 — events set for family-friendly celebration. 9&10 News
- ➤ Today, the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation announced it will award $19,050 in grants to 13 organizations working to improve equity and inclusion in local counties and among Tribal communities. The grants will support projects such as safe transportation, foster care support for Native American families, and outreach for nontraditional youth in snow sports—nonprofits and Tribal entities may apply online by August 1. - ➤ Volunteers and officials honored Corporal Lyman B. Snow at Oakwood Cemetery with a headstone after he had been buried in an unmarked grave since 1913. Volunteer Scott Schwander and State Sen. - ➤ The Spirit of Sleeping Bear Dunes, a 50-minute documentary directed by Keith Patterson, won the Best Michigan-Made Feature Documentary award and will screen on July 23 at 7 p.m. at the State Theatre as part of the Traverse City Film Festival community screenings.
