  • New owners have revived the iconic Burger Barge on Torch Lake to continue a local burger tradition that began in 2003. Head Chef Cody Donahue said the team will keep classic features—such as the original sign and unique burger stacking method—to serve loyal locals and new customers.  9&10 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Bradford Gille, charged in the Walmart stabbing, returned via Zoom to a Grand Traverse County courtroom on Wednesday afternoon and had his bond raised to $1 million after his finger gun gesture led the prosecutor to request stricter bond conditions—if released, he must wear a GPS tether and follow a no-contact order while a competency evaluation is ordered.  UpNorthLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • North Central Michigan College released a study showing it contributed nearly $80 million a year to the local economy and supported over 1,000 jobs in the region — a boost that also included $220 million in social benefits from added incomes and lower public costs.   • Today, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians distributed $706,758.54 from gaming revenue to 39 local units of government under a biannual two percent allocation required by a consent decree—63 applications were reviewed and the next allocation will be decided in January 2026.  UpNorthLive
  • Michigan State Police—Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division explained that FEMA grants are available to help 13 Northern Michigan counties recover from an ice storm that hit March 28-30.   • Park rangers at Sleeping Bear Dunes saved a visitor who suffered a heart attack on July 11 at the fish weir on the Platte River by arriving in three minutes, using an AED to deliver two shocks, and performing CPR before transporting the patient to Munson Medical Center where the visitor made a full recovery.  UpNorthLive
