- ➤ Traverse City's Experimental Aircraft Association invites locals to book flights in a historic B-29 and Ford Tri-Motor this weekend—tickets were sold during pre-registration at NMC’s aviation building. - ➤ The Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department lifted its advisory for Lake Leelanau DNR Boat Ramp East after water samples showed E. coli levels met safety standards following a sewage spill earlier this week. - ➤ Traverse City Commission will review plans for urgent 14th Street improvements due to rising repair costs and pothole issues—officials will consider a partial mill and overlay project covering 6,574 linear feet in fall and review allocation of $294,289 in block grant funds to local organizations. The review is set for the Aug. 18 meeting. 9&10 News
- ➤ MDOT will begin a $1.5 million project on Aug. 25 to resurface nearly 9 miles of paved shoulders along M-22 in Leelanau County from Lakeview Hills Road in Bingham Township to Cedar Street in Suttons Bay. The work supports 14 jobs and is set to finish on Oct. 3 — improving safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. 9&10 News
- ➤ After several rounds of feedback, Traverse City commissioners will consider a new policy on Monday that sets procedures for placing tax-increment finance plans on a citywide vote—this policy defines ballot wording and determines if a failed request may return on future ballots. - ➤ Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians in Traverse City will face detours as crews work on watermain, sewer and street reconstruction on Union and Eleventh streets until Aug.22—detours will route traffic via Cass Street while access to nearby driveways is maintained. Separate emergency sewer repairs on the 300 block of Cedar Street will begin Aug.18 with Cedar and Seventh streets closing temporarily and access planned to resume by Aug.19. 9&10 News

- ➤ Wildfire smoke is forecast to return next week in parts of northern Michigan and outdoor workers in Traverse City already face higher health risks. An occupational health scientist said landscapers, farmers, construction crews and delivery drivers have less protection—leaving them vulnerable to respiratory problems and heat stress.
