- ➤ North Central Michigan College opened its Early Learning Center Tuesday to help local families with quality childcare+ the ribbon-cutting was led by President David Roland Finley. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Grand Traverse County Health Department issued a no-body contact advisory for West Grand Traverse Bay after 500 gallons of untreated sewage spilled into Kids Creek during sewer main repairs on Aug 18, and testing is underway—residents and visitors should avoid swimming or wading until water quality meets safety standards. 9&10 News
- ➤ The Health Department of Northwest Michigan confirmed a human case of West Nile virus in Emmet County on Aug. 19. Health officials advise residents to use EPA-approved repellents and wear long sleeves to avoid mosquito bites—especially between dusk and dawn. 9&10 News
- ➤ On Monday evening, 500 gallons of untreated raw sewage spilled into Kids Creek during sewer main repairs near Cedar Street and Sixth Street, and the Grand Traverse County Health Department issued a no-contact advisory for local waterways including parts of Kids Creek, the Boardman River, Clinch Park, and Sunset Park. Water sampling is underway today with results expected later—residents and visitors should avoid all water contact until the waters meet EGLE standards. UpNorthLive
