  • The Benzie Area R/C Club is presenting the 28th Annual Airshow today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Thompsonville Airport, Ed McIntosh Field, where a noon World War II battle show and candy drop for kids are planned.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CRIME NEWS

  • Walmart stabbing suspect Bradford Gille was ruled not competent to stand trial at a competency hearing on Friday and will remain at a forensic center for treatment—officials will schedule his trial once his mental state improves.  9&10 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Traverse City Philharmonic will begin its concert season in September after a record-breaking summer at the Civic Center Amphitheater and a successful 25th season fundraiser—artistic director Kevin Rhodes said the new schedule will bring renewed energy to concerts and community music classes.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traverse City Fire Department introduced a new video laryngoscope, the CuraPlex One, that uses a tiny camera to show the windpipe—improving intubation success. The department acquired two devices that automatically record each use—helping with training and evaluation.  UpNorthLive
  • Traverse City commissioners have split $294,289 in Community Development Block Grant funds to help those without homes—Goodwill Northern Michigan will receive $96,000 for rental vouchers, Jubilee House will receive $55,179 for staffing, and Homestretch Nonprofit Housing will receive $143,110 for its planned affordable apartment building on city Parking Lot O. The funds will support both immediate services and long-term housing solutions.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • United Way of Northwest Michigan will start Therapy Corps in September to help fill a gap in mental health care for children in Grand Traverse. Credentialed therapists, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists must volunteer one hour a week for kids 17 and under and receive a stipend for continuing education.  9&10 News
