COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local coalition is planning a protest against Avelo ICE flights today in Traverse City to challenge current flight policies—exact timing and location are not yet announced.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CRIME NEWS

  • A man accused of attacking people with a knife in Traverse City Walmart was ruled incompetent to stand trial by Judge Michael Stepka—he may be tried later after treatment.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The DNR restored 1,400 miles of state roads in the state forest after an ice storm damaged roads, trails, and a campground, and they said only 46 percent of trails are open. Officials said cleanup work and damage assessments will take quite some time—volunteers help safely remove debris and dangerous branches.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Grand Traverse County may add a judge for its 13th Circuit and Probate courts after a report by the State Court Administrative Office showed heavy caseloads and county commissioners offered a letter of support requesting a secondary analysis—an effort to address the growing demands for court services.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Since Phase II started on July 7, the Grand Traverse Mental Health Crisis and Access Center served more patients as Munson Healthcare and the Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Authority partnered to add urgent care—enabled by $5 million in county funds.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Traverse City speech therapist Erin Ackley is hosting a clothing swap to help people trade clothes instead of buying fast fashion — an idea she has shared with friends for over 20 years. Locals can join the swap — more details will be shared soon — to take part in a friendly exchange.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Northern Michigan athletes Carson and Ethan achieved perfect scores at the USA High School Clay Target National Championship at the Reed City Sportsman Club—Carson finished third and Ethan placed sixth after advancing to a shoot-off with 21 others from about 40,000 competitors, with both saying that focus helped them succeed.  9&10 News
