Traverse City allocated nearly $300K from its Community Development Block Grant to local groups that address affordable housing – Homestretch Nonprofit Housing Corporation received over $143K for new housing, Goodwill Northern Michigan got $96K for rental vouchers, and Jubilee House was given just over $55K for staffing. The funding supports the city’s effort to help low-income residents while over $360K in grants was managed this year.

Charlie and Cody Parks were honored on Friday by Sheriff Matt Leirstein and Prosecutor Mike Schuitema with a plaque for stopping a man from fatally attacking a woman who confronted him over dog abuse—investigators said their brave act saved her life and she is still recovering.

Eligible nonprofits including those on the Little Traverse Bay Reservation are urged to apply for low‑interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration — the funds will cover repairs and economic losses from the ice storms — before the September 22 deadline.
