- ➤ Traverse City firefighters were honored for their lifesaving work at an awards ceremony where cardiac arrest survivor Shannon Olshove thanked the responders for preserving her family. The event stressed the value of CPR training after first responders revived both Olshove and 11-year-old Jacob Thiel. UpNorthLive

- ➤ Traverse City Light and Power finished designing its all-fiber broadband network, TCLP Fiber—designed to provide fast, affordable internet to local residents and businesses. Construction will finish by November and network configuration will follow before customers can sign up. UpNorthLive

- ➤ Local author Bob Downes was honored statewide for his book on Native peoples in the Midwest—Raw Deal—which earned a book-of-the-year award from the Historical Society of Michigan; the award will be presented on Sept. 26 in Alpena. 9&10 News

- ➤ Work will begin next month on a new parking area at Cherry Capital Airport after the Northwest Regional Airport Authority Board approved a $2,626,525 contract with Team Elmer’s to build a 360-space lot—addressing parking overflows after record traveler numbers were seen this year. - ➤ The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is awarding $1 million to support the Grandview Vision redevelopment in downtown Traverse City where a vacant lot on Grandview Parkway will be converted into 20 new condominiums and retail space, and a nearby Garland Street site will add retail and a parking garage—work includes demolition, asbestos abatement, and contaminated soil removal while the city and its Downtown Development Authority contribute $1 million for pedestrian-friendly infrastructure improvements. Construction will be completed in 2028. 9&10 News
- ➤ Cherry Capital Airport plans to build a new remote concourse that will open by next spring to handle growing passenger traffic at the airport. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ A new TRIP report finds that Traverse City drivers pay $1,934 each year due to poor roads, congestion and outdated safety features, contributing to a statewide cost of $17.3 billion from extra repair, fuel and accident expenses. The report warns that with falling funding—leading to a $3.9 billion gap—the state risks closing over 100 bridges by 2035 unless investments improve our transportation network. 9&10 News
