  • Traverse City's historic Central Neighborhood will host PorchFest on Sept. 14, flooding the streets with music. The community event will feature live performances that celebrate local talent.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

CRIME NEWS

  • A Traverse City man named John Cunningham, 55, was arraigned Wednesday in Lansing on two counts of filing a false or fraudulent income tax return linked to an unlicensed marijuana operation in Grand Traverse County—each charge carrying a five-year felony penalty after a state police investigation.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Leaf peepers can board a historic schooner for a fall color tour in Suttons Bay on Saturday, October 11 when Inland Seas Education Association offers two two-hour sail options at 11:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.—ticket prices start at $30.  UpNorthLive
  • Friday night's fireworks show took place at Turtle Creek Stadium and the International Fireworks Championship continues today as six teams from Canada, China, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, and the United States compete for the title—pyrotechnic specialists will award the trophy at the end of tonight's show.  UpNorthLive

  • Traverse City Public Schools’ Board of Education will vote Monday on an additional $1.5M to fund upgrades at Sabin—aimed at modernizing the school building for improved use.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

  • Traverse City's FishPass project has turned dry land into flowing water this summer as crews work to de-water the north side of the Boardman Ottaway River—setting up for a new fish sorting channel. The project aims to aid fish migration and block invasive species, with wet work expected next year and onshore tasks continuing until 2027.  UpNorthLive
  • Hazardous beach conditions remain in effect in Emmet and Charlevoix Counties today as swimmers face rip currents and waves ranging from 3 to 9 feet, while a gale warning holds in Grand Traverse Bay until 1 p.m. due to winds up to 40 kts and waves reaching 13 feet—threatening vessel safety.  Traverse City Record-Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Traverse Sheriff's office will soon start ORV patrols to lower the 14 serious ATV and side-by-side incidents reported since last year—officials are fitting side-by-sides with radios as safety steps—and the Northwest ORV Association advises riders to slow down on trails that change quickly.  UpNorthLive
