- ➤ St. Joseph Catholic Church is hosting its 5th annual fall festival on the Old Mission Peninsula Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—local residents will enjoy Bavarian food, wine tasting, kids games, piñatas, and a raffle with a $2,500 prize while supporting church programs. UpNorthLive

- ➤ On Monday, Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos announced it will change its name to Grand Traverse Band Economic Development Corporation — a change that better reflects its mission to boost economic development for the tribe and region. The company runs Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel, Leelanau Sands Casino and Lodge, Crystal Shores Casino, Beach Fire Cannabis and Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Traverse City Record-Eagle
- ➤ Traverse City's Modern Bird was featured on the New York Times America's 50 Best Restaurants list. The restaurant—created by chefs Andy Elliott and Emily Stewart and located at 541 W. Front St.—started at a local market before moving into a renovated 1890s building. 9&10 News

- ➤ Annika Wooton performed a live speed painting at the International Firework Championship this past weekend and revealed a painting featuring Jared Goff (and a lighthouse) that blended art with live performance. - ➤ Traverse City Area Public Schools Board of Education approved a five-year strategic plan on September 8 that focuses on student achievement, well-being and school connection. The plan, developed with input from students, parents and staff, sets clear goals to boost literacy, math and post-secondary readiness — a promise that will be tracked with annual reports — ensuring progress is shared with the community. 9&10 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Traverse City city and planning commissions held a joint session on housing shortage and affordability today where partner organizations presented ideas on funding, fair housing and tax abatements — commissioners will review these proposals to guide future housing policy. UpNorthLive
- ➤ Grand Traverse County commissioners will review proposed actions from the county’s Jail Steering Committee during today’s study session. The committee—set up last spring and forming an executive group in May—is studying issues with the 60-year-old jail and seeking public input on a new facility before making a decision. - ➤ City officials in Traverse City began a strategic action plan to guide growth and development by aligning city programs with community priorities using an OKR process introduced by Future IQ CEO David Beurle on Sept. 8. The commission will use survey feedback—covering housing, economic development, city services, and the trail system—to draft and integrate OKRs into the long-term strategy and budget process in the coming months. 9&10 News
